Advanced Grammar & Vocabulary

Advanced Grammar & Vocabulary uses the Michael Clay Thompson Language Arts curriculum because it is built on the same Latin and Greek root-word philosophy that runs through every RAWR studio track. Here, that philosophy is explored more systematically and in greater depth than a single studio term allows. MCT also treats grammar as architecture—the framework that makes sentences work the way they do.

Instruction is organized around four components: grammar, vocabulary, poetry, and writing. Students learn what a clause is and why it matters. They learn what a participial phrase can do that a simple sentence cannot. They learn how the word "transmit" carries the meaning of "send across," and why knowing that makes a hundred other words immediately more accessible.

Through close study, discussion, and consistent practice, students move beyond memorizing rules to understanding how English works—where vocabulary comes from, how grammatical structures are built, and what those structures allow writers to do.

The goal is not to know more words or grammar rules. The goal is to understand how the language is put together—and how to use that knowledge deliberately. That understanding makes students stronger readers and more precise writers. It also makes them more confident ones, because confidence comes from understanding why something works, not just from being told that it does.
